Hey it's Friday Again

The end of another week.  Shouldn't wish your life away, but I do appreciate Fridays!

Been a busy week.  Getting all those little bits and pieces dealt with - as well as the bigger bits and pieces, as it looks like I may have a short term contract starting next week.  It's only part time but will fill the gaps nicely around my other clients.  It feels good when you have something new to look forward to.

Somethings had to be pushed to one side this week to sort stuff out, so no zumba and no #Ladies Circle meeting on Wednesday, but my desk is a lot clearer!

Wonder how many tears were shed on Wednesday.  Ashbourne Circle went to see War Horse at #The Quad.  I'm not sure about watching films that make me cry, I've never see Titanic - just can't bear it, that tightening of the throat as you try not to let that first sniffle out!  Not for me.

Bit of a MOT week as well - dentist for a filling and blood test (4 bottles).  Mr Manley, my dentist (for fillings only - his wife does my check ups), has some fantastic new gadgets at his surgery.  An injection that doesn't hurt and yet still works really well and a camera to photograph your teeth - I could see the hole he'd just made in mine on the TV screen in front of me!  John says this is why my dentist fees are higher than his (I go private as I'm a scaredy cat with dentists and I like The Manley's), but I thought it was a great idea.

Weekend is cleaning - cleaner still away, and dinner at friends on Saturday night.  Julie is laying on a Burns Night Supper!  Best find my kilt and bagpipes (tarten skirt and recorder with a bag attached), they must be in the dressing up box somewhere!!

Have a good weekend everyone.

Back to Work Monday!

Thank goodness the weather's calmed down!  It's always windier at the top of this hill then anywhere else in Ashbourne.  The rain was horizontal yesterday morning!  Definitely the calm after the storm.

Had planned a lovely walk with the dog for Sunday, but due to the horrendous weather we were forced to stay in.  Really focussed our minds on some tidying up and also some holiday planning.

So I've now reorganised some clients files and tidied the study, and John has booked us some very nice accommodation on the outskirts of Stockholm for our hols.  Think we have the accommodation sorted for Copenhagen now, so just Karlstad area to sort.  Oh, and the week in England post olympic games weekend is still to sort.  Productive weekend, but not finished quite sorted all the holidays!

John has organised a weekend away with a friend and Joe, and we know which weekend John and I are going away together, just need to book it.  Also, committed to a weekend for John's big birthday bash!

Bit of an MOT week to look forward to, blood test, dentist and opticians.  The dentist won't be a pleasant experience - a filling!!

Have been typing this whilst waiting for the kitchen fitter to arrive - have a problem with a shelf in one of the corner units!  He was supposed to be here at 8.30, but it's now 9.20 and no sign of him.  Well, all I can say is if you buy a kitchen from Intoto don't expect them to be prompt.  Everytime they've been due to come over they are late and sometimes up to two days late!!  Maybe if you live in Nottingham (local to the store) they are better, but obviously a trip to Ashbourne is a trip too far!

Right, on with some work now.

TGIF - Thank Goodness It's Friday

End of the week at last!  Albeit a very wet end to the week!!  Don't think it's stopped raining yet today.  I so much prefer the cold, clear days with lovely blue sky.

Well, put the blinds up in the kitchen and snug yesterday and promptly took them down again!  Had ordered them from Next, and their quality was appalling.  They were roman blinds, but the only way to lower them was to pull the cord from underneath the blind to the left and then guide the blind down with the other hand.  I would have given them a couple of days before John would have pulled them off the wall in frustration!  They were impossible.  So waiting for them to be collected by the courier.  Have now found out that I can order the same fabric from Next Made2Measure so that I can get them made up myself.  Keep mum busy when she comes back from her hols!!

Started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest last night.  Only read the first chapter, but already remembering the story of the second book in the series.  Loved the first two but read them almost back to back, and decided to save this third book until later.

Plans for the weekend?  Well, cleaner on holiday so will need to do that!!  How dare she go on holiday for a month - mother!!  If the weather clears up it would be nice to go for a good long walk with the dog, if it stays like this it will be a short walk with the dog!  Tidy my office would be good - I seem to have my work, Toria's revision, Toria's university stuff and John's holiday plans spread around the desk! and why is there a tape measure there??

Wonder if I get Joe to set up the Skype on the TV in the snug??  Could get talking to Sandra and Francis in Vancouver then.

Anyway, work to do now.  Have a lovely weekend everyone.

19.01.12 - Couldn't think of a Title

Couldn't decide on a title today - gets harder!!  Should it be 'Almost the Weekend', 'Terrific Thursday - Because it's Almost the Weekend' or 'Thank Goodness it's Thursday - Cos it's Almost the Weekend'?Anyway, the date will have to suffice.  Any ideas would be gratefully received for further blogs!

Popped out to client this morning, but a computer glitch has sent me home early.  Lots to do here though so won't be a long blog.

About to start my next book for the Reading Challenge 2012 - Stieg Larrson's The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.  I've read the other two of the trilogy, but discovered that I hadn't read the third even though it's been on the bookshelf for absolutely ages.

Just been watching our kitten (9 months old now), Oscar, chasing another cat out of the garden.  They're now in a stand off by the vegetable garden!  So funny as Oscar isn't the biggest cat in the world but obviously thinks he is!

Just looked again and now Oscar has a mouse - dead thankfully.  Just locked the cat flap so he can't bring it in, so he's sat outside the french doors throwing it around.  Theo, the dog, is watching from inside!  Probably trying to work out why you would want to play with a dead mouse, though suspect that he would happily want to play with it if it was a pheasant!

Knitted snood about half way there.  Don't think I will have much time to knit tonight as planning on going to Zumba.  The weight is coming off, but very slowly, so need to up the exercise!  I enjoy it when I get there it's just the effort involved in getting out the house to go in the first place.

Wet (Damp) Wednesday

Well after a couple of cold frosty days we now have fog and drizzle in Ashbourne.  I prefer the cold days with the clear blue sky, even if you do have to put several layers on, hat, gloves and scarf to walk the dog.  You just have to walk faster to keep warm.

Started my new knitting project last night.  My niece wants a snood, so I've made a start on that for her.  Cable and ribbed as requested.  Should have it done by the weekend.  Haven't had chance to look at my new knitted flower book yet, but that will be next on my list.

Busy start to the morning, popped over to see a client in Draycott, then to Dunelm to buy some scissors, Morrisons to buy fish and then home.  Just a shame that Boots Opticians phoned me at 10.30 to tell me that I had forgotten my opticians appointment!!  Really should have checked my diary this morning!!

Bought myself some flowers in Morrisons too.  It's 10 years today since my dad died so I have put my flowers on the kitchen window sill in his memory.  Still miss him so very much.  Love you dad xx

On with some work now.

New Working Week

Well didn't get near my blog all weekend, just too busy!

Popped home to let the dog out between clients so thought I might have a coffee and a quick blog.

Really excited as I found a parcel on my doorstep that I've been waiting for!!  Knitted and felted flowers - time to start knitting!!  Well, maybe tonight!  There are some gorgeous designs, including a knitted felted bag!  Will start with the flowers though.

Went to see Sherlock Holmes on Saturday evening - brilliant film.  Robert Downey Jnr is fabulous.  Jude Law almost as good.  Will have to get the film when it comes out on DVD as I'm sure there will be bits I missed.  Husband pulled it to pieces - machine guns in 1891!  'If they'd had them then they would have used them in the first world war!'  I was just enjoying it.

Popped down to Tamworth on Sunday to have a look around the new John Lewis Home Store.  Some lovely stuff but didn't buy anything.  Ended up back in Derby to buy a new kettle!  Did order some blinds and a rug for my kitchen/snug when I got home though, so not a completely wasted day!

OK, coffee finished, back to work.

Day Three

Still blogging!!

Why does it take so long to speak to anyone at a bank?  All I wanted to know was the best way to receive money from the states.  Should they send me a cheque payable in dollars for me to bank or should they wire the money to me??  Seemingly it will cost me £8 ($12.50) to bank a cheque.  Still waiting on my contact in the states to tell me how much it will cost to wire it to me.

I spoke to three different people and was once put through to the wrong department!  They still seem a little vague.  Do we not have financial dealings with the states?

.... and all the numbers are 0845, and you have to go through three minutes of messages, number entering etc before you can speak to anyone.  How much did that phone call cost me?

Managed to pacify the husband with an hour on the computer last night looking at flights to Sweden, although we have now decided that it is cheaper, and the flights are better, if we fly to Copenhagen in Denmark, and cross the Oresund Bridge to Malmo.

Will be emailing a few people in Sweden today for some advice on where to stay, what to do etc.  This was the other halfs latest request.  Should we go north towards Gothenburg or stay in the south.  Trouble is Stockholm is a seven hour drive away from the south.

Decorators have been here since Monday.  The hallway is starting to look a bit more presentable - not been sorted since the builders were here last summer!  It is a bit of a distraction, but at least they make me a cup of tea.  Hopefully they should be finished tomorrow.

Couple of days working out of the office now so may be no blogging until next week - but I may surprise you - and me!!

POSITIVE THOUGHT:

LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH GREAT VIEWS FROM MY OFFICE WINDOW.
